Vegans respect the individuality of every living creature, along with the well-being of the planet and other humans. We recognize that other animals, not just humans, desire to live free from unnecessary suffering. Because we humans can live healthy, happy lives without eating animals, and because other animals wish to live healthy, happy lives, we feel it is a moral obligation to respect, not exploit, other creatures…
Veganism is a lifestyle of compassion and peace. There is great joy in knowing that, simply by making different choices, you are saving the lives of around 100 other animals per year…and having profoundly positive impacts on the planet.
Going vegan takes you out of the system of suffering and exploitation. You can still enjoy delicious foods and cruelty-free versions of most other items thanks to the phenomenal growth of vegan products available today. Veganism is not about sacrifice…it is about compassion, respect, peace, and joy.
Sunberry Baking Company is committed to using organic products in order to avoid poisoning the Earth. Simply put, organic products are better for the environment, for people, and for all other creatures. Organic production eschews chemical fertilizers, which pollute rivers and streams, as well as synthetic pesticides and herbicides that pollute the air, soil, and water. Instead, organic products use all-natural growing methods that actually build a healthy environment, not deplete it.
Organics support communities and small farmers. Most organic growers work on smaller scales than industrial farms, and often have a direct connection to their community through direct sales at farmers markets and other local venues. Workers on organic farms also have reduced exposure to harsh cancer causing chemicals.
While organic products may have a higher cost at the check-out counter than conventional products, the consumer pays a little more for what is NOT in the product: the hidden costs of conventional products include millions of tax dollars each year for costs associated with pesticides, chemical fertilizers, and environmental damage that are associated with industrial agriculture.
Why Fair Trade?
Sunberry Baking Company is committed to using fair-trade ingredients in cases where products can often come from questionable sources where individuals and communities are exploited. Major examples are chocolate, coffee, sugar, and bananas.
“Fair Trade is a way of doing business that ultimately aims to keep small farmers an active part of the world marketplace, and aims to empower consumers to make purchases that support their values. Fair Trade is a set of business practices voluntarily adopted by the producers and buyers of agricultural commodities and hand-made crafts that are designed to advance many economic, social and environmental goals, including:
- Raising and stabilizing the incomes of small-scale farmers, farm workers, and artisans.
- More equitably distributing the economic gains, opportunities and risks associated with the production and sale of these goods.
- Increasing the organizational and commercial capacities of producer groups.
- Supporting democratically owned and controlled producer organizations.
- Promoting labor rights and the right of workers to organize.
- Promoting safe and sustainable farming methods and working conditions.
- Connecting consumers and producers.
- Increasing consumer awareness and engagement with issues affecting producers.”
